Studying the Eightfold Noble – and Ennobling Path

Eightfold Noble path, or as we like to call it, the Eightfold Ennobling Path, is about methodology. How do we put all the talk and philosophy of emptiness into place in a meaningful, practical and grounded way in our lives?

The 8 steps of the eightfold path are:

  1. Right View: sammā-diṭṭhi
  2. Right Intention: sammā-saṅkappa
  3. Right Speech: sammā-vācā
  4. Right Action: sammā-kammanta
  5. Right Livelihood: sammā-ājīva
  6. Right Effort: sammā-vāyāma
  7. Right Mindfulness: sammā-sati
  8. Right Concentration: sammā-samādhi

Though the word ‘sammā’ is often translated as ‘right’ – eg Right View – the original pali could be better translated as ‘complete’ or total.  So the eightfold path is also something we practice and develop over time for an ever more complete understanding or embodiment of that quality – from Complete View to Complete Concentration.

Through this study, practice and by seeing the stuckness of our thinking and perceptions, we begin to loosen our tight sense of who we are. Greater freedom, compassion and clarity results.

This Course is instructed by Qapel Doug Duncan and Sensei Catherine Pawasarat are Dharma and meditation teachers who founded Clear Sky Meditation Centre, BC, Canada.
