Seattle Buddhist Center – Triratna Buddhist Community
Description
The Seattle Buddhist Center is part of an international Buddhist movement known as the Triratna Buddhist Community which aims to make available the teachings and practices of Buddhism in a form accessible to those in the West. The Seattle Buddhist Center offers a range of activities and resources to further these aims. We are entirely volunteer-run. Please join us for a class or for our regular online Sangha Nights on Sunday evenings.
Our movement was founded in 1967 by Ven. Sangharakshita, who although English by birth, spent 20 years in Asia studying and practicing under teacher’s from Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions. Returning to England he became convinced of the need for a new Buddhist movement in the West that would communicate the ideals of Buddhism by drawing not only from the three main Buddhist traditions but also from the cultural and artistic heritage of the West.
Practicing Buddhism with others offers a unique opportunity to get to know oneself, learn from each other, and express oneself more deeply through relationship. Our Sunday evening Sangha Night is a rotating program of meditation, dharma talks, and puja (devotional ritual) but each night includes some meditation. Check the program or the newsletter for details.
