The arts, culture, and cuisine of Tibet, ancient and modern, were available for sampling at events held in recent months in Portland and Seattle.
Portland’s Tibetan Cultural Festival, held on May 10 and sponsored by the Northwest Tibetan Cultural Association (www.nwtca.org), featured live yaks, traditional foods, a demonstration of the Art of Sand Mandala by Samtung monks, and performances by the NWTCA Dance Troupe and rock violinists, Aaron Meyer and Bill Lamb.
The Tibetan Association of Washington (www.washingtontibet.org) held its event, Tibet Fest, at Seattle Center August 25 and 26. The festival included films and photos about Tibet and its history, plus music and dance, children’s crafts, a marketplace, and cooking lessons on how to prepare po cha, tsampa, and momos.
