On June 14th, the Northwest Dharma Association held what is hoped will be the first of many "Gratitude Gatherings" to express appreciation to long-time supporters and volunteers.
The event itself turned out to be a shining example of what volunteerism can achieve. A committee headed by recent NWDA president Steve Wilhelm and current board member Bill Hirsch, plus volunteers Laura Busch, Irene Goto, Eileen McCann, Nee Poyns, and Suz-Marie Tousley, put together a great gathering featuring good food, good fellowship and good times.
Thanks to the generosity of NWDA board member Nick Vail and Nalanda West, we had a great venue for the gathering. We were entertained both musically and dramatically by Lynne Marvet (a.k.a. Dr. Memee Heehee) and her friend Thomas Brooks. We enjoyed home-cooked Thai food arranged by Nee and Eileen and used napkins imprinted with the NWDA logo, hand-made by Irene. Beautiful flower arrangements were provided by Laura and the Tibetan Nuns Project donated "party favors" for each place setting.
After door prizes were given out (there were almost enough for everyone) we relaxed with dessert, luscious pies baked by Irene. Finishing off the evening, Steve and his lovely wife, Ellen, demonstrated their expertise in the dishwashing department. Many other hands made light the work. Altogether a great event and a tribute to the willing spirit of our volunteers. A deep bow of gratitude to all!
