Introduction to Zen – Eight Week Series

All are welcome to our weekly introductory class emphasizing Zen meditation instruction. Please arrive a little early so we can help you find a seat.

8-Week Introduction to Zen Series

Our spring series of introductory classes exploring Rinzai Zen practice runs from the end of March through mid-May. All are welcome to any or all of the classes. A $5 donation is suggested for each class. Here’s the schedule:

March 31: Zazen – how to practice seated meditation.

April 7: Mindfulness Practices – chanting, walking, bowing, tea.

April 14: Circles of Meditation – the expanding circles of meditation practice and how they carry over into our daily lives.

April 21: Koan Study – the use of koans (Zen parables) to investigate our own deep nature.

April 28: Four Noble Truths – the Buddha’s radical teaching on liberation from suffering.

May 5: Noble Eightfold Path – Buddha’s Way to gradually unravel suffering in our lives.

May 12: Four Great Vows – the fundamental context for our whole Zen practice.

May 19: The Precepts – the Bodhisattva Precepts for upright conduct in living a compassionate, awakened life.
