A Taste of Daoism: a Day of Daoist Lifestyle and Tea Appreciation

Saturday, July 20 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

In this day-long program, participants are introduced to the world of tea. They will learn the traditional Chinese way to prepare and appreciate tea, and hear some of its colorful histories and myths, while also getting a glimpse of the daily life of a Daoist. There will be opportunities to explore specific aspects of Daoist lifestyle through qi gong (body exercises for guiding internal energy), awareness practices and more. The schedule for the day will also follow the rise and fall of energy throughout the day, and tea will be paired with the times of the day to tune into and harmonize with this cycle.

In Daoism, making tea is a practice that cultivates elegance and virtue in body and mind. Throughout many cultures, making tea evokes simplicity, calm, and self-reflection. Sharing it with friends is a basis for good conversation and liveliness. A day of tea appreciation gives space to explore these many facets of tea, which reflect the many facets of our own nature.

Attendees are encouraged to where clothes suitable for movement. Feel free to bring a notebook and pen for reflection, and a water bottle for hydration.

About the instructor

Michael Busby is authorized to teach qi gong by Dr. Eva Wong — 19th-generation lineage carrier of Xiantianwujimen Daoism (Pre-celestial Limitless Gate School of Daoism). He has been practicing and studying qigong with Dr. Wong for ten years. He is also the owner of Daoist Lifestyle Tea, BYOtea, a company that centers around tea appreciation and seasonal curation. In addition to Daoist Qigong, he also studies meditation and martial arts. He enjoys living a simple life with his wife Trinley and cat Buster in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
