In this Friday night dharma talk, Phillip Moffitt will give an overview of the four qualities needed for mindfulness practice as described in the Satipatthana Sutta. The four qualities are diligence (energy), clear knowing, mindfulness, and a mind free from desires and discontent. Through an exploration of how each quality applies to each of the Four Foundations of Mindfulness, Phillip will point the way to cultivating these qualities in our meditation practice.
In addition to Phillip’s talk exploring the four qualities needed for mindfulness, the evening will include a period of meditation and time for discussion.
Phillip Moffitt is a co-guiding teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Northern California and the founder of the Life Balance Institute, a nonprofit organization devoted to the study and practice of spiritual values in daily life (www.lifebalance.org). A specialist in guiding people through change and transition, Phillip combines dharma teachings with his years of practical and spiritual counseling experience to create unique learning opportunities.
