Coeur d’Alene Dharma Friends host Ven. Thubten Tarpa and Ven. Thubten Semkye for a talk on the Four Truths of the Noble Ones. These contain the the foundational principles of all Buddhist teachings
When the Buddha—the “Awakened One”—first began to teach, he explained these four truths—four facts seen as true by “Noble Ones” who understand the nature of reality. These four truths are:
1) We undergo undesirable experiences. These unsatisfactory experiences are to be identified.
2) These experiences have causes: ignorance, our afflictive emotions, and the previous actions we have done. These causes are to be abandoned.
3) There exists a peaceful situation in which all these undesirable experiences and their causes have been eliminated. The cessation of each afflictive emotion is to be actualized.
4) There’s a path that will lead us to this state of peace. This path is to be practiced.
Vens. Tarpa and Semkye are fully ordained nuns who have studied with Sravasti Abbey founder, Ven. Thubten Chodron, for many years. Both are skilled at explaining these fundamentals in a way that anyone can understand. Join them and the friendly CdA Dharma group to learn about Buddha’s teachings.
